Garmin Edge 705

Edge 705

Rugged, lightweight Garmin Edge 705 attaches easily to the stem or handlebars of your bike with the included bike mount. Just turn it on, acquire GPS satellites and go. It is so much more than the earlier 205 and 305 models.

The Edge 705 is similar to the Edge 605 with a few basic differences: The 705 estimates altitude based on barometric pressure, which is a vast improvement over GPS triangulation in heavy tree cover; the optional heart rate monitor and/or speed/cadence sensor.

The Gramin Edge 705 has a slightly-bigger and improved platform than the 205 and 305.. The 2.2" diagonal color LCD screen, at 176 x 220 pixels, is substantially bigger than the 205 and 305 128 x 160-pixel viewing area. And it’s a good thing because there’s a lot more to see now. The unit has a "click stick" thumb-operated joystick and the seven function buttons. The click stick is a vast improvement over the previous models in navigating the functions.

Garmin claims you actually get more run time out of a charge than on the previous models: 15 hours versus 12 hours. This claim remains to be experienced since actual run times can vary greatly. But it a welcome feature for most long distance riders.

This high-sensitivity GPS receiver tracks your position even in tree cover and canyons, making it extremely reliable for distance and speed information. Virtual Partner© lets you race a virtual competitor over a specified distance and speed; and the Edge 705 allows you to race against a previously recorded workout, so you can compare your current and past performances over the same ride. Street and topographic maps are available in pre-formatted SD cards, but the stock units come with enough mapping capability to get you to where you need to go, follow a pre-planned route, or figure out how to get back.

As an added benefit, you can plan, analyze and store data from your workouts using free Garmin Training Center® software, which lets you analyze data with interactive graphs that chart your speed, time and elevation. Overlay your ride on a map so you can pinpoint specific areas and see how elevation and other factors affect your performance. Or, upload your workout data to MotionBased.com, Garmin's web-based application that provides in-depth analysis of your workouts, online mapping and route sharing that will take your training to the next level.

Included With Purchase: Edge 705, Bike mount, one of the options (heart rate monitor; heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor; or heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor, and data card preloaded with City Navigator for US, Canada, and Puerto Rico), Garmin Training Cente® CD, AC charger, USB interface cable, owner's manual, Quick-Start guide.
